n. [Gr. pleuron, side; L. tergum, back; Gr. -ites, nature of]
(ARTHROPODA: Insecta)
1. A sclerite containing both pleural and tergal elements.
2. In Diptera, the lateral area of the mesopostnotum, above the metathoracic spiracle; in mosquitoes, divisible into lower and upper pleuotergites, represented by apodemes internally.
